Zine Writing Virtual Gallery

ENC4380, Fall 2021

An Instagram course project from ENC4380, Feminist Zine Writing. Social critiques, personal diary rants and impassioned protests are just some of the topics commonly discussed within feminist zines. Zines are able to bypass traditional gate-keeping mechanisms that silence non-dominant voices and perspectives. As a result, zines offer a platform upon which feminists of all genders are using words, images and other non-violent discursive practices to advocate for equity, mobilize activist efforts and build and sustain community.

This gallery is a series of photos of student zines created during the semester in ENC4380. The zines are displayed in page order so that viewers can click through each page and see the zine online. #zinestagram

Sports, Rhetoric, and Society YouTube Project

This channel is a place for students of the Sports, Rhetoric, and Society class at Florida International University to upload short videos and PSAs about the research they have done during the Fall 2021 semester. In these videos, Dr. Elmore’s students explore issues related to the intersections of sports and gender, race, class, diversity, community, language, etc.

Spring Volunteer Experience

A Tumblr blog created by FIU Student Joshue Lemus under the guidance of professor Darrel Elmore.

For this project, I really wanted to give my audience an understanding of why I had chosen to volunteer for Love For Our Elders. The volunteering experience was very personal to me, therefore, I wanted this to be reflected in my blog. I was also heavily inspired by the organization itself, and as a result, wanted to create something that would promote them in some way. Therefore, I created a flyer using a program called Pixlr. Overall, I loved volunteering for Love For Our Elders and devoting myself to this organization. Not only was it fun, but it was also incredibly inspiring and motivating. I can definitely see myself doing more with them in the future. And with this project, I really hope to inspire others to check them out and participate.

Memory Lane

By Lili Sevilla, ENC3416

The embedded video is the introduction to a multimodal presentation: a narrated PPT file, with embedded videos utilizing Snapchat filters, virtual backgrounds, and animated bitmoji. It was created for the Technology Literacy Narrative project for ENC3416. Here is a link to the full project: Memory Lane, Lili Sevilla’s Technology Literacy Narrative

I was able to work with two types of media: the virtual snapchat filters along with the PowerPoint. It was very hard to compress and put it in the right size to be accessible for canvas and everyone.

This narrative is very important to me because it got me into seeing my own memory lane. I kind of forgot all these technology platforms I used to use. Where I am now it can be hard to look back and appreciate what made you who you are today – VHS, accelerated reading program, Messenger Live. The pandemic and at home research is giving me the liberty to continue my pre-med studies at home and still be English major.

My Journey Towards Literacy

By Cristian Cruz Oria, ENC3416

This narrative was created for ENC3416, for the Technology Literacy Narrative Project.

Utilizing a popular social media app like “Instagram” was kind of tricky, making sure the post is cohesive, and show a whole narrative in chronological order was kind of a struggle. I think that the page came out the way I wanted it to. Each post includes multiple photo and video clips. Explore through each one to listen to the narrative.
